I keep seeing “aluminum corrodes like steel”. Yes it can corrode but nothing at all like steel.
No indeed, only aluminium can fully deteriorate intercrystalline in e.g.ammonia environments and then fracture brittle without warning.I keep seeing “aluminum corrodes like steel”. Yes it can corrode but nothing at all like steel.
In my reasoning to buy an aluminum Ford is the body panels. Rinsing (washing) the deep dark recesses where the salt fog is created @ about 35-40 mph throughout the various hidden areas and especially all the seams and spot welded miscellaneous support "channels" is impractical during the winter months.I keep seeing “aluminum corrodes like steel”. Is that sledder stock? Somehow I highly doubt it. Location had nothing to do with his PW needing the front end rebuilt at Twelve Thousand miles.I disagree. It is not about "back then", it is where you live. Try the desert southwest, they live forever.
1974 F-350, 1991 Dodge D-250 and 2001 Dodge 2500, still on the road.
Does this 1975 F-250 sled puller look and sound like junk?

It may be impractical, but after going to the parts of Colorado that uses magnesium chloride instead of salt, a cleansing of the undercarriage follows. Both on the Ram and trailer.Rinsing (washing) the deep dark recesses where the salt fog is created @ about 35-40 mph throughout the various hidden areas and especially all the seams and spot welded miscellaneous support "channels" is impractical during the winter months.
I have several 1990's Volvos without rust on the aluminum fenders, hoods and trunk lids/tailgates. One of them (1993) has some corrosion on the tailgate that I am told was caused by a poor ground from the tailgate to the steel body. Corrosion, but not even close to perforation.I keep seeing “aluminum corrodes like steel”. Yes it can corrode but nothing at all like steel.
Most automatic car washes around here are touchless pressure washer gantries, and all offer quantity discounts, either buying in bulk or monthly plans. Back when I was passing one of them every day, I would try to get each car there after each weather event, but I don't travel that route anymore. It's 15 degrees out right now and the next few days are going to be cold, but I got in tonight after driving through 200 miles of salted roads and would really like to wash my truck off. So I envy those of you who are set up for it. Maybe next year...
