Didn't the older Land Rovers have aluminum or an alloy of for the bodies? Only the frames rotted out esp the back.

Yep, the older Land Rovers had aluminum (or, as the Brits call it "Aluminium") bodies. I expect those bodies corroded as well but since those Land Rover bodies were basically flat panels, they'd be fairly simple to repair. The frames rusting out would probably (my opinion) scrap the vehicle due to the cost of repair.
