I remember here years back there were some great alternatives to box scrapers but I cannot find the posts. Anyone remember or have such an implement?

You mean stuff like a straight blade, either unaltered or with home made "wings" and concrete blocks stacked up on it? There's always the wood or metal square frames that we build and drag behind the tractors... Harrows, also good choices...

Actually, I've been asked to think about good ways to smooth out areas that we box blade at work. We're going for a surface that won't develop any (or as few as possible) ruts and bumps, and trying to do it without spending too much time painstakingly floating the box in all directions.

Dragging a pipe or railroad tie... Dragging a railroad rail was suggested by someone...

I could cut out and weld up 1 of those in a day. If I could only see and measure 1. OH WELL

Try this thread too (starting on page 8, post #79, you will begin to see discussion on them, there are more on following pages): http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/59301-box-blade-photo-comparision-brands.html?highlight=box+blade+photo

Duragrader, LandPlane and a few other names are what you might be looking for. They are designed specifically for roadway work. The designs that seem to be better have 2 slighly angled blades instead of 2 blades that are perpendicular to the line of travel. This seems to help with crowning of a road or drive.

I posted these on a couple of other forums today, but they are generally asking the same type questions.

I started to maintain a 1800 foot trail to a hunting camp with a box blade but, to many whoop-do-does. Now I just drag a log behind the ATV.

Anyway, I found pictures and plans of this attachment. I want to build (or have built) one to use at camp.

I was thinking something along the line of the TR3 but with more dirt retaining ability. Perhaps its just the new carbide studded PTO driven rakes I had in mind with the side boards added on for mor dirt holding ability.
