Almost had a very bad day

I went out and cut my first field today. It almost got real ugly with my mower conditioner

I was turning a corner and camouflaged in the Orchard Grass and Timothy was a hood off my Dad's old 1 ton. Must have blown off this past winter, I hadn't even noticed. I just started to hear metal on metal grinding when I heard it. Crisis avoided. Checked the blades, all was in check. Must have been my Dad looking down from above.

I'm surprised that more of that sort of stuff doesn't happen. Neighbor had been swathing his hay and found his children's wading pool. Took him a little over an hour to get all the plastic out of the swather. I can see how you could easily miss that hood but how do you not see a red/white/blue wading pool. Luckily it only cost him time and not repairs.

When I first got here and had to hire it done, I had a patch of haygrazer that was about 5' high. The guy doing the cutting, with a sickle bar, asked if the field was clean. I assured him that it was. However, a few days prior to the event, I recalled a 5 gallon bucket missing from a place where I had seen it sitting for quite some time. The guy got about 20 yards down the first pass and !@#$%^&. I then knew where the bucket went and one of my boys fessed up. I was embarassed. Good news was it didn't hurt anything.

I put a kids tricycle halfway through a haybine once, neighbours field, his kids tricycle.Wasn't very rideable after I got it out.

Son in law took out a skunk with a disc cutter last week. Me being the understanding guy I am, I told him, I didn't hit the skunk. You deal with it. Open station tractor too.
