People that use "quotation marks" for anything other than quotation

Unfortunately grammar can have legal connotations. I spent many years with the military, civil service and writing specifications and contracts. Learned some basic precepts; keep it brief, short sentences, avoid conjunctions, avoid over use of articles, most preposition phrases can be eliminated and don't end a sentence with one, only one subject in a paragraph. Unfortunately I wound up with writing documents because everyone else shied away from writing. Never went to college; but had excellent English teachers in grammar and high school that served me well. Today how can we expect to teach use of the language when the teachers are as bad as the students.

Now pick this paragraph apart, I did not review it for SNAFUs.

You can also learn alot from reading, if you choose a good author. OTOH there is one very prolific author who uses so many run on sentences that when I tried to read one of her books I found myself going through it with a red pen, rewriting the sentences. Alot of us don't proof read the way that we should though; I find myself going back to edit my posts because of poor writing.
