Thanks for your input on why the mower blades stalled the motor. It turned out to be a partial cage from a tomato plant that jammed one blade. Since I am on the chalmers 712S tractor how rugged are they compared to a old deere or cub tractor?
I know its not shaft drive but is the trans and rear end real tough? Any input would be a great help.......thanks

Not to highjack the thread but I am looking at a AC 716h and I also wondered how rugged they are? I plan to use it mainly for pulling a trailer.

These are full feature garden tractors that were made in the 1970's and compare with the Cub Cadet 149 or the Deere 300 series machines of same era, although may not have all the bells and whistles a Deere 300 or 316 had. They were also cheaper than the Deere models. These should be able to plow a garden, and do other ground engaging tasks as well.

My son has a 7116H Simplicity-same as 716h A-C- and has had great service from it. His grandfather had it before him for 20+ years with very few problems. It has the B&S 16 horse, which has occasional ignition system issues, but the rest of the tractor has been trouble-free.
