Allis Chalmers 314D
Hello,

I have a 314D Allis Chalmers. I use it for snow removal and mowing the yard. I also have a small plow for it that I have yet to use.

When I took the mower deck off last year the electric clutch was working fine. When I put the deck on this year the clutch won't engage. When I turn it on you can see the clutch attempt to engage but it won't turn. Once I had it engage after checking the wires and but I had not disconnected any. I was looking for any rubbing spots or broken ones.

Is there a ground for the clutch somewhere?

Thanks in advance

There should be two wires going to a plug fairly close to the clutch. Disconnect the plug and with the ignition switch on, PTO on, engine not running, you should read 12 volts between the two pins on the plug. Also, with everything off, you should have continuity through the clutch. With the plug connected, there should be an audible click with the ignition switch on, if you also turn the PTO switch on.

Sadly there is only one wire going to the clutch. I haven't checked the voltage but when I switch on the clutch with the engine running I see it attempt to engage but it does not.

Thanks for the advice. I will check the voltage at the switch where the wire comes from though.
