allergic to horses?

Jake spent the night at a friend's house Friday night, the next morning he was out with the friend and his dad cutting cattle on horseback, and he came home yesterday afternoon with his eyes swollen, runny nose, sneezing his head off.

I vaguely remember back when we had horses him sneezing when he was around them. I have heard of people being allergic to long haired animals, cats and dogs, rabbits, etc, but have never heard of anyone being alergic to horses. Does anyone else have this problem or know anyone who does?

Just as a side note, he handles deer all the time, cleaning, etc, hides and so on. Wouldn't they be pretty similar? He has no reaction to deer hide or live cow hide. I'm wondering if he's reacting to damp or wet leather instead of the actual horse. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If it's on this planet it's possible that someone could be allergic to it. They might be using fly spray or something else on the horses that got to him. The reaction could also be a one time thing. If they were cutting cattle he might have rode through a patch of something he hasn't been exposed to before. When you ride horses and have cattle running they kick stuff up, and more of it, than you would normally be exposed to walking through it. I walked through a field not to long ago before bush hogging it and had no problem. Two days later I hogged it and was clogged up for a day after that. I figure it was from the dust raised by the mower.

It's not that uncommon for people to be allergic to horses.

So far as I know, and I experiment a lot, I am not allergic to anything. My sister said, wait til you get pregnant that will all change. She wasn't allergic to anything either until after her first child. Then one day she ate a slice of pizza and swelled up like a blowfish. Can't have anything with a tomato sauce in it. Three kids later, I still have no allergies, but get wicked heartburn which I never had pre-kids.
