Agree on getting a fee only CFP! My CPA, who's been a friend of mine for 20 yrs, recommended him. It is GREAT working with him!
I took all my financial info and pension options to him prior to retiring. He gave (well for $500) us a slick folder full of charts and graphs and his recommendations. Key to this was his figuring out which pension plan worked best, meaning the most $$$$$$ for us, by figuring the net present value on all of my options.
Next mtg with him will be to show us where we are over and under invested. This will end up being the best $1K I've ever spent!
I recommend you find one early, and not like us, wait til the month I was ready to retire.
Oh, my CFP took his own retirement at 52, then paid CASH for a $350K house............. I'm impressed. And he's conservative!
