I got one of those a few weeks ago. Have you tried the OCR that comes with it? Seems to work very well, and not terribly slow even on my old HP computer. I scanned a page from a cookbook we use so much it is falling apart. The pages are small, and the print is in two columns. Even with paper browning and smudged with age, the only mistakes were in the printed fractions. It interpreted 1/2 as a V, for instance. I don't know that the much more expensive scanner and software we use at work would have done better.
BTW, I bought mine at Best Buy, too, but I think my price will only come out to what you paid after I get my mail-in $70 rebate.
