No, he's talking about a girl, I knew her in school and she was a problem and the only additive is to just not look at her.:)

Actually it is more likely bacteria. There is stuff to treat it that I read on these forums but I can't remember where. Try the search. You might want to get your fuel at a different place, one that goes through a lot of diesel. Of course, every can get a bad batch.

Cheers

I have never had an algae problem myself, but some of the farmers in this area use an additive. I don't know the name, but if I get the chance, I will ask the people that farm our land.

And folks wonder why folks don't like to use search and have to sift through so much junk replies.

Just did a Bing.com search:"Racor Diesel Biocide Benefits:
Used to help maintain color stability and clarity; control bacteria, fungi, organic reaction and sludge formation; inhibit against corrosion; and disperse existent sludge." There are others.

first I apologize for the poor spelling, I did mean algae. Have heard horror stories of this getting started in diesel fuel and creating mega problems Wondering if any have had prob's along these lines and if there is an additive that the members of this forum use
to prevent the problem. Believe in preventative maintenance rather then wasting time troubleshooting problems. For those who posted helpful insights, thank you. Jim

Jim,

We rent all of our row crop land out to different people and use our tractors for bush hogging, road, path, firing range and lawn maintenance, so we don't store large quantities of fuel in tanks like farmers. We use plastic fuel containers and periodically completely empty them. We have, however gone two or three months before using it. We have tractors from 23 to 80 horsepower and have not had any problems, so I don't use an additive.

My brother uses an additive in his tractor, but it doesn't get a lot of use.

I do use HEET ESO for diesel occasionally.

I would never advise anyone not to use an additive, I just haven't had the need to myself. As mentioned by some others, I only use from a place that sells a lot of diesel. Hope this helps and will do a little more research. Larry

I dump a quart of power service in the 55 gallon drum when I fill up this rig.

Algae is bacteria growing in the fuel-clogging fuel filters with black gunk.A biocide is required to remedy the situation. It happens when fuel sits unused for some time, more common in warmer climates.I've seen fuel around here sit for years and be just fine.No one around here treats fuel for algae as a preventative maintenance measure.I suppose if I lived in a hot, humid climate and my fuel sat around,I'd consider it an issue.Let your situation be your guide.
