There's over 1 billion people in the western hemisphere (The Americas). And 80,000 of them will die from alcohol related issues. So that's about 0.008 percent? Is that correct?

My stepdad was a drinker and smoker. He was one of those that always said " well, you have to die of something" but I gotta tell ya. Nothing can prepare someone to die of throat cancer! What a nasty, way to die!

He died at 63, just into retirement from a job he hated!

She never drank, never smoked.

She did serve in the Pacific during WWII though as did many (most) of my uncles and aunts. They all fought cancer.

My buddies dad didn't drink, didn't smoke, didn't even freaking swear. He died at 42. Probably all that stress from not letting it out via drinking and swearing.

my father drank a bit too much (i guess)... and died from pancreatic problems from drinking over the years at 73. my little brother died at 46 from pancreatic problems in the exact same way - he drank mostly every day. i was a causal wine guy but 100% gave it all up a year ago and have not missed it. my thinking is that some people might be more tolerant to alcohol than others...given my family history im not going to test it. btw, my father did not drink more than the average guy. to each his own.

Drinking is currently killing two of my wife's first cousins. They're brothers, dying horrible painful deaths from liver failure. Both are in their 60s. The old dogs that survive a life of abusing their bodies are few and far between compared to the ones that don't make it that long.
