I had a similiar experience. This is the before picture.

This is the picture after it stopped raining. Notice the walkway to the pond house is under 2 feet of water.

But does not look like it came up on the house. Is it floating?

No, the house is not floating. It is stationary. The water came up to the bottom of the floor joists.

Water was about an inch from going over the low part of the dam, so the house can not get flooded.

Heard them called Bald Cypress and River Cypress. Often live for many hundreds of years. The one you see in the photo is about 15 years old.

now that I have a name, it was easier to understand why i didn't know what they were. They just don't grow up here..

Baldcypress sites are characterized by frequent, prolonged flooding. Floodwaters may be 3 m (10 ft) deep or more
