AK and Vegas Travel Guides

We have a couple upcoming trips and are looking for suggestions for good travel guides for Alaska and Las Vegas

Not sure if it matters or not.. But for Alaska we are flying into Anchorage in early June 2008 and are driving around for 6 or 7 days - We were suppose to go with my inlaws, who had their own travel itineray, but it looks like they wont be making it now so the wife and I are on our own for trip planning..

Are you a member of AAA? AAA Mid-Atlantic :: About AAA, if not it is worth the $$ to join. I have been using AAA travel guides for 30 years and find them to have the most up to date information. If they list a location as a "Gem" it is worth seeing. The AAA discounts you receive on hotels more then pays for the cost to join. Oh yea if u break down they will send a tow truck out to help too. They offer a complete travel service from planning the entire vacation for you, or just sending you books and maps, your choice.

The "Milepost" is full of great info on travelling in AK. It isn't written specifically for what you're planning, since you're not travelling the AlCan highway, but it is still very helpful.

When flying in to Anchorage don't rent your car at the airport. The taxes and fees are outragous! Arrange for a rental off airport and take a cap to the rental agency.

When going to Las Vegas forget the travel guide, just bring as much money as you can.
