We have several airports in northern Ohio, that have busy state routes just off the end of the runway. So, I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.
Getting down in a Piper shouldn't be an issue. Those things glide like a Steinway, when you pull the power out.
Coming in so flat is stupid, and unnecessary. But, for some reason people do it.
This reminds me of the student who clipped a car on an airport access road, hundreds of feet before the beginning of the landing area, in Texas, a few years ago.

When I was a kid, we'd drive past Bunker Hill AFB in Peru, IN fairly often. They had signs on the highway telling motorists to watch for low flying airplanes.... like what the heck! The runway is at a slight diagonal to the road, so that any planes coming in would be coming from the driver's side left and rear a bit. There was a car that got hit by one plane down there that I know of. Sometime in the early 60's, as my father told me.

This is either the world's shortest and widest runway or it's one very low approach...
That is a short field touch and go. :thumbsup:

It was about 4 years ago. I came home from some errand and found my driveway full of 3 trucks from the electrical utility. "We are just finishing up". Went inthe house and wife " G.D. dogs, four hours of barking!". A single engine plane had a power failure and knew he wasnt' going to make the fireld, pulled a 180 and landed on the highway just ahead of semi. One the way down he passed under, but not quite, the power line feeding my place as it crossed the hiway. Cut the line. Plane undamaged except for tip of vertical stab. They pushed it into a field jsut 1/4 mile down the road, replaced the stab and flew it off the highway 2 days later. Seems I am always gone when there is any excitement.
