On other posts, I have seen someone mention that there are air/water valve stems for tractor rims. The information indicated that this made it easier to fill tires with fluid. Can anyone tell me the size required for the JD 4100's front and rear tires?

Thanks

Nuru - what you want is an adapter that permit you to connect a garden hose to your valve stem. The adapter that I got at my local NAPA store was made for the larger air/liquid valve used on big tractors, but had a fitting that screws into the the adapter that reduced the adapter to standard valve stems size. If you are thinking of filling your tires, it fairly easy, jack the tractor up, place the valve stem at 12 o'clock, reduce air pressure (don't let it all out, I have heard that the weight will unseat the bead), start filling, stopping to bleed the air out occassionaly. I used a small drill operated pump to put the antifreeze in (I used methanol, 1 gallon to 6 gallons of water). Remember to following your tractor's manual as to how full you can fill them, usually just over the top of the rim. I found out that the extra weight made my JD790 more efficient at loader operations.

HalseyGreen, thank you , I will check out the Napa part. 6 to 1, hmmm that makes using antifreeze affordable.
Another question - how do you get the fluid out? Do you have to take the tire apart to get it all out?

All of it? Yes. But you can get most of it out simply by stopping with the valve stem on the bottom (6 o'clock) and removing the valve core. Have a bucket ready to catch it./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

And Tractor Supply Co., some tractor dealers, and goodness knows how many other places besides NAPA have the air/water adapters.

HalseyGreen, BTW, do you know which brand of antifreeze is non-toxic to animals?

Nuru:
I would think RV antifreeze should be non toxic.

Nuru, I noticed that Gemplers has a large variety of these tools in their catalog, from very cheap to very expensive.
