Just went thru today's mail, mixed in with the usual bills and junk was a letter from "Air Compressor Litigation" located in Merrick, NY. The contents are titled: Notice of Pendency of Class Action and Proposed Settlement.

From what I interpret, anyone who purchased an air compressor made by Campbell Hausfeld, Devilbiss, and Coleman Powermate between 8/1/96 and 1/30/04 may be eligible for an award, basically consisting of credits for the purchase of certain products.

I have at least two and possibly three of the compressors listed in the settlement, and I assume they sent me the information because I returned a product registration card.

For more detailed information, check out this site:

Since mine is a Craftsman made by Devilbiss, I may have a claim /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Maybe this will bring back some honesty in air compressor HP ratings. This has been a subject of discussion for a long time, as to how they could claim so much HP running on a 120V-20 amp circuit. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Me too. I'm getting ready to go outside and work on the garage so while I'm out there I'll get all of the information I'll need. Which option are/did you go for? I'm thinking about "C".

Just made my claim. My Air Compressor deal just keeps getting better. I think I only paid $239 for mine 33 gal, 8.8 CFM at 60 PSI and 6.4 CFM at 90 PSI supposedly. It came with a 3/8" impact wrench & 3/8" ratchet, along with a small hose and various connectors. Can't really complain at that price. It runs my 1/2" impact great along with everything else I've thrown at it including the framing nailer and palm nailer. Maybe one of these days I'll upgrade, but for now I'm happy and considering the deal is still getting better. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just wanting to say thanks for posting this. I really appreciate it. And my wife keeps telling me to get a life. Says I spend too much time on this site, but yet she is telling me to go drive a John Deere tractor so I can get the chair for our son. Where does she think I learned about that at?

Just out of curiousity...what exactly is this class action suit about?

I read several posts from folks who say they're included, but are any of you having problems with the compressors you own? Or, are you just taking advantage of the class action settlement?

Roy,

The basics are that the suit claims the makers advertised and sold the air compressors as having higher hp ratings than the electric motors actually produced.

I have never had any problems, but if I bought a compressor that was advertised at 4 hp I have the right to expect that it ACTUALLY delivers that rating.

Thanks for the information as I was unaware of any of this .

I have bought two Craftsman portables in my name during that time.
