Oil & Fuel air cleaner of mf 165 perkisn diesel

where is the air cleaner located on mf 165 perkisn diesel? can i shoot starting fluid into the air cleaner opening? also any know of a source for an owners manueal for this tractor?

G'day you should find the air cleaner in behind the big badge on the right side of the rad cowling just pull it down from the topand then just pop the cleaner out and give it a little sniff ( only a couple of secs)

bandjodunn is right. Standing in front of the tractor on the right side pull dpwn the top of the MF 165 [round chrome] emblem and the air filter is there,you don't have to pull anything out just give a quick shot into the end and give it a start.Don't use to much either.Larry

G'day been thinking about your start prob is your thermostart not working? You will find it at the front of the inlet manifold with a wire and a small pipe going to it as you turn the key to start you should feel a resistance stop that is the preheat position after about 15 - 20 secs you should feel the end of the thermostart warming up without removing it from the manifold. If this is working then DO NOT use this in conjunction with ether as you can blow the manifold off ( and yes i have seen it happen ). If it is not working then replace as these motors rarely need ether if you replace then be sure to crank the engine to get fuel up to the small pipe where it joins the thermostart, if you do not bleed this up you can burn out a new unit on the first try as they rely on the fuel to run over the coil to keep it cool and to create a fire in the manifold to assist starting and those coils do not like to be used dry.
