Ken, I more or less agree with you. You need to be safe. A good quality tool is safer than a cheap poorly made one. I am saying that you can make an argument that a lower quality new tool is probably as safe as a premium one that is near the end of it's useful life and has been abused. This might very well be the case with a borrowed tool.I love good stuff, but I also love a good deal. I have a tractor from Korea, a table saw from Taiwan, guns from Germany, knives from Japan and Spain. I feel that they are all top drawer stuff. I suspect if we knew where to look, there is some good stuff made in China, but it probably does not sell at Agg-Supply prices.

If I had to guess, I would say China Junk is the answer to your question. Use it once and throw it away. Ken Sweet
Yeah, if you had to GUESS.

But a little looking might prove otherwise.

I know their PHD's are made by Dale Phillips Equipment in Wellington, Alabama, and based on other threads are fairly good.

Have you tried calling them up and determining who make their other implements?

I've got one of their 3pt pallet forks and it's well built and rugged.

But it's a lot easier for a dealer to just jump on something as "China Junk" and put a bad spin on everything sold by their competitor, and then later modify the comment.

For me their prices SHIPPED are near the same as TSC or others, but picked up at the store is a bargain.

I said you have to pick and choose and be careful. I have purchased tens of thousands of dollars of equipment from them with good experience in the past 15 years. Not all is Dale Phillips. Ken Sweet

Actually if that would have been your original reply, it would have been fine. But it was not. This is your original reply:

"If I had to guess, I would say China Junk is the answer to your question. Use it once and throw it away. Ken Sweet"

I did not think that provided any value to the OP, which is the only reason that I replied. I actually haven't seen things like utility carriers or boom ploles made by the higher end suppliers although they may be. And I would agree with the poster's point that anyone standing under a weight of significance suspended by a boom pole on a tractor is behaving supidly without regard to where the boom pole was made. There are a whole lot of things that can go wrong in that situation of which the boom pole is only one.

In general, it is always better to take the high road in a response, especially by a business person. You can give an informed opinion without trashing another supplier or country for that matter. As I said, if you are over 50, you will probably remember the same comments made about products from Japan.

I was speaking to the specific items the original poster mentioned, not any more than that?? Ken Sweet

I know what people do with boom poles. There designed to lift stuff. So is an engine lift etc. I still would not let my loved ones under it weather it is a AgriSupply Pole or Some Fancy $300 usa made one. Things fail, weather it is the boom pole link arm or Orings in the 3 point system. I use my BP to load stuff, i loaded a Johndeere 450 tiller in and out of my truck with my King Kutter boom pole. That thing was 300-400lbs i guess. This does not mean i had my hands or body under it while my buddy was running his tractor or me running mine to unload and reload it to return it. I would hold the side of it to guide it or hook a strap to it. If it fell no big deal, kind of scary but i was clear of it. I would not walk under it or let my wife and kids do it. Putting a motor in, care should be used so that nothing is in a pinch point and that hands are above crush zones, common sense and thinking is what is needed.

I have always been curious why Mfgrs would not rate boom poles at what max lift capacity was? If you ever get anything out of them it may be something like 300-400 lbs or some silly low #. I would assume many lawsuits have burned them pretty good when a late Friday afternoon weld broke loose too many times and injured the consumer. Why else wont they tell you that you can lift 2000-3000 pounds (which I have done with the HD square ones) Ken Sweet
