AGCO pdf manuals are locked

I was going to order AGCO manuals for my 135 and figured that the PDF would be a good way to go. My thinking was that I could print certain pages and not have to worry about messing up my only copy. After talking to AGCO the files are locked and for viewing on the computer only. No printing. I just thought that I would pass this along in case someone might order the PDF versions without calling first.

If you want to print a page here and there here is a way to print those pages. Download and install Libre office. Open the pdf in the draw app and print the page.

Open the .pdf on the page you want, so that you can see the section you want on screen. Then press ctrl & pritsc - go into a art package or powerpoint and press ctrl & v (paste). Resize to fit your page, and print :thumbsup:

I use a similar method but ctrl+print screen and then paste them into Excel and then repeat. I use the crop and re-size options with in Excel to format them as I want.

That is an attractive approach... However, I just checked my Parts Book pdf for a new tractor. It has a print option built in to the header. I followed that, it brought up a larger view and the Print option then worked fine from the pdf header. It may make a difference if you have a user ID and password to get into the parts book in the first place & how that was obtained. I bought several hardcopy manuals and maybe that causes you to be enabled for printing (?) Why not ask your local dealer ? Mine fixed me up with the user ID and password as well as an explanation.

Unlocking "protected" PDF's is relatively easy, but I opted to buy the hard copy printed manuals because I don't trust "digital", and eventually plan to make my own backup scans which won't have any of that DRM garbage embedded in them.

I bought hardcopy manuals too. Have no idea what a DRM is. Regardless I just printed out a few pages from the AGCO on-line pdf parts book.

Digital Rights Management. Generally employed to harass legitimate users and limit their options and application functionality while doing nothing to stop serious pirates from getting the content.

All the typical tricks to print a page from the pdf manuals don't work. I ordered a copy for my baler and my mower so I had a digital copy to access when I am on the road and there is a problem at home. The problem with their pdf files is that it has to be ran off the disk and you have to run the security software first in order to open one of the pdf files (or the file will not open). This makes these digital manuals useless unless the computer you are using has a DVD drive (which most tablets don't). I understand them trying to protect their manuals, but they also need to understand that they need to catch up with the times, we need to be able to access these manuals from something other than a standard PC.
