I plan to purchase a landscape rake to do several jobs around the yard (smoothing dirt for seeding, leveling the gravel driveway etc.) My JD dealer thinks a Westward 5' is the way to go, though he can't tell me why a Frontier wouldn't work as well.

Can anyone give me advice as to makes and models (plus size) that I should look at please...and thanks!

A 5' rake should be perfect for your tractor, I would shop around, compare what is available and buy the best deal you can find. This is one of those implements that can be a generic brand without issue. Just pay attention to how well they are made and whether you can get it I Match ready or easily converted. I have a cheaper Leinbach 7' rake that was easy to set up for I Match and added a box tubing drop leg stand to hold it when unhitched.

I have a 6 foot KK rake for my 2520 and it seems to handle that size OK. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a KK rake because they aren't built all that well, have lousy paint and are NOT iMatch compatible out of the box.

I bought it because it was cheap and on-sale to boot. I then made an iMatch adapter for it that doubles as a trailer hitch and also adapts a KK carryall.

Best of luck with your decision.

York type rakes are definitely not all the same. Decent rakes are heavy and have large tempered steel tines that vibrate and shake at higher speeds. If you've never used a high quality rake you won't appreciate the difference. I've used York and other brands for about 50 years.

I think a 5' is too small - when it is angled will you be covering your tire tracks?

I have a 6' Frontier medium duty rake (LR1172) and it seems a perfect fit for my 2520.

I agree that York builds a quality product, just not sure that the OP would want to fork over that much cash. :D If he does a real bona fide York rake will definately yield better results and finish.

Personally, I'd recommend a six footer for that tractor. I have a Landpride and I'm very happy with it. I used to have a Woods, and liked theirs also.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

I searched for a York dealer that would have been reasonably close, but couldn't find one.

I did order a 6' medium duty Frontier.

Guess I should have bought it a few months ago...6" of snow fell today:eek:
