powerking/ terramite
I'm thinking about trying to sell my powerking on ebay, I've never sold anything that way before so any advice would be helpful, such as putting a minimum bid or but it now .

You have many options on ebay; if you've never sold anything there you need to watch some auctions first to figure out how they work. To set the lowest price you will accept for it, either use that price for your opening bid or set a reserve price. "Buy it now" can work for you or against you; personally I never use it when selling.

A good (and free) digital image program that re-sizes easily and does much more is Irfanview. Go here to downlaod it.

<ul type="square">
[*]Clean it up nice and take some good quality shots. Keep the size reasonable enough that they will still load quickly as no one will wait to see a picture that takes 5 minutes to load.

[*]Hit on all the good features of the equipment and just touch, don't dwell on the bad points. Example there is a cracked axle that has been professionally welded.

[*]List the item using a fair minimum bid, most reserve auctions are turn-offs. You might want to think about a 10 day auction for maximum exposure however most of your bids will be placed in the last few minutes.

[*]Ask for a deposit immediately on the closing of the auction to tie up the sale. Tell the bidders you will hold the item for 30 days for them to make arrangements to come get it. Tell them deposits are NOT refundable so they won't be likely to change their minds about the sale days later.

[*]If a bidder still backs out file with eBay for a final value credit and try again.....

[*]List the item and sit back for 10 days and keep your fingers crossed, Good luck on the potential sale! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just sold a 3 pt snow blower on eBay that I have had listed on TBN's classified for 2 years. Lots of interest on TBN but no real buyers. I listed the blower with a starting bid of $1.00 and a reserve of $780. I also put a buy it now price of $995. Many of my bids were placed early, not late like I would have expected. The $1.00 gets people interested and bidding. I had about 100 people "watching" my item and about 6 serious bidders. The guy who bought it told me when he picked it up that he had set his max price to bid $200 plus dollars over what he actually paid should anybody else have outbid him. In the beginning I didn't have an automatic freight calculator on my listing and that hurt. I got 10's of emails asking freight rate. The actual buyer picked up the blower in person (2 hour drive). BTW the Buy it Now button disappears the minute your reserve bid is hit and I believe it gives the buyer a good indication of what you are asking looking for. The ads I don't like are the ones when the reserve is about $50 less that the Buy it Now. The bidding really picks up once the reserve has been hit. I have seen people use no reserve and $1.00 starting bid for major items and get good results...

Good luck. I also did get a couple of crank questions from people in India who needed the blower immediately and wanted me to take the Money Order and act through an agent. Immediately after getting these requests, I got an email from eBay telling me to watch out for certain kinds of behavor so they are actually watching out for these scams. I was impressed. Overall a very god experience as have been all my experiences on eBay.

Andy sorry TBN didn't work for you. We sold our last tractor here, overnight. No listing fee, no final value fee, and the buyer paid with cash.

I'm afraid it doesn't get much better than that.

Very well said Mike. I just sold my first major item on Ebay in December (1997 Ford Ranger), and the sale went better than I had ever expected... I was contacted within 10 minutes after the close of the auction, and the truck was picked up and paid for in cash 14 hours later! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Here's my Ebay listing, showing examples of my positives and negatives of the item being sold...
1997 Ford Ranger

By the way, those bullet points in your post sure look good!

AndyM your description for the truck was very well written and your pictures were excellent. You had over 1000 folks that looked at your eBay listing so the (tag line) item description did get their attention which is something that all eBay sellers strive for. It almost made me feel like jumping in there and bidding myself! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW: I just found out how to use the bullet feature (list item) here at TBN myself. A topic I brought up in NEWS/FEEDBACK.

Be good, I like your new picture............

I did n't mean to imply any negatives about the TBN classified. Just that eBay has a much larger audience. Andy

You may want to enter a clause reserving the right to end your auction early if you sell it local first.
