My first time here and would appreciaite any feedback from either current or previous owners regarding Kubota tractors on the small farm and building sites ( trenching, moving soil/sand, loading rubbish). Looking for reliability, ease of repair, cost of repairs/parts, best suitability.

Thanks.
Ian.

I have a little B3200 Kubota and use it for exactly what you describe. It only has about 400hrs on it so far (2009 model) but it has been very dependable and a joy to use. I use it for my small construction business for grading, back filling, light excavating, moving materials, fence building, etc.

Also use it on my farm for bush hogging, cleaning cattle pens, haying (mowing/tedding/raking), hauling in firewood and just about anything else that you would use a small tractor for.

Kubota's are unique, IMO, that even very small models like mine are well suited to true agricultural and construction work, scale appropriate of course. Other brands have lost some of those important attributes as they cater more towards the homeowner/hobby farmer in the small size classes. I only have experience with the B-series (B3200, B7610, B21 and B26) and the large M-series (M7040 and M9540), but all have exhibited great quality, reliability, and performance.

Welcome to TBN. It's best if you can tell us a little more about what your plans are. I could suggest a wide range of tractors could fit the needs you've mentioned but they could be either too large or too small to do what you want and then go into the pluses and minuses of each but you're head would be spinning.

How many acres on your farm (or the farm you're thinking of)? Do you plan on transporting the tractor to a business to use it and if so what do you have to move it (1/2 ton pickup, larger)? Is your land flat? Do you have a fair amount of acreage to mow or brush hog? Will you have a dirt road to maintain and if so how long? Will you have to clear snow, if so how much and often do you get it? Do you have a budget range to work with or are you going to try to buy what fits your needs and not worry as much about costs? Do you want bells and whistles or are you a no frills sort of person? Have you thought about what type of transmission you would like (gear like a standard car, a gst transmission that's kind of like an automatic in a car, or a HST that's very user friendly)?

I hope I didn't overwhelm you but as you'll find out choosing the right tractor takes a little time no matter which brand. Each tractor offers different features, some people find they like certain features while others find they can't live with them. Above all else read, always ask questions, and enjoy yourself.

I have two and they have been great. Minimal repairs over the years but I do change fluids regularly. Not a bad choice. Others may be good also but I have only had the Kubota 4X4's. When you pick a tractor you need to pick the right one regardless of the color,

I purchased a kubota b2710 in 2000. Spent hundreds of hours, over the course of a year, reading every post on this site. Felt it was the best choice for my needs, and the safest bet to not having buyers remorse. Was a wonderfull tractor, putting over 1000 hours on it. Had to replace it beginning of the year, and again studied all the posts. So glad I did, ended up with a l3940. So amazed and happy with it. Struggled spending the extra money on a grand L, but so worth it! Reliability is outstanding, as is ease of use.

I don't have a tremendous amount of hours on it (bout 110), but I recently purchased a new Kubota M7040SUD. It has been a great machine. I looked around quite a bit too. This site seems to favor JD and Kubota, and from what I saw while looking at tractors, they seem to be two of the better brands in the utility size range.

The reason I went with Kubota over JD is it offered a bit more for the money. I was looking for a basic tractor and the SUD had a bit more to offer than the comparable JD (5075E). I haven't regretted it. (I do own a JD commercial mower, however, and I love that machine too!)

I too did a lot of researching before I bought my ride and looked at most of the brands here. Two things are "special" about Kubota's as far as I could determine - They have a better dealer network where I operate, and they make their own equipment.
Kubota has roughly 1,050 dealers spread throughout the U.S. Kubotaç—´ biggest strength is that they engineer and manufacturer their own tractors and a majority of their implements. This leads to a better product synergy and cost control.
