Advice on creating a website.

I want to be able to post comments on the pictures that I post. Some of the before pictures show some things that I like to point out. Then you can see in my finished pictures how I fixed those problems.

There is no reason for others to post any comments on the site.

Thanks,
Eddie

That should be very easy, then. Most web hosting companies have website building tools. You could also use Microsoft's Front Page. You may already have it on your PC if you have and Office packages. Most web hosting companies are Front Page enabled. So, as I mentioned before, you just build the website on your home computer and upload the entire thing to your web host. That's it.

Your home page would have your logo, some welcoming text, and some links to other pages. Make the front page fit in a 1024 x less than 768 hole. That is the most common size resolution screen that people use, the entire home page will fit in most peoples' browser window, and they will not have to scroll down to see anything, so they will not miss anything.

Just a couple links on the home page will probably do. One for contact info and one for a list of your works would seem to suffice.

Your list of works can be organized with just text links, or with thumbnail photos, etc... Simpler is better, as complicated tends to make folks want to leave.

The hardest part is coming up with an elegant look, as you are finding with your logo search. That is where professional designers really can help. However, once you have that look that you like, incorporate it into the entire website.

Since you have the time to do it at night, it may be a fun thing for you to learn. And if you don't like the results, you can always pay someone to help.

For a logo, how about a crooked "E". Well, on second thought........

Alan,

Not sure what a crooked E looks like, but the sound of it probably wouldn't inspire confidence. LOL

I did think about a Lazy E, but that would just look like a W.

Eddie,

If you have the time, I would go to one of the web hosting sites, register a dummy domain, and purchase a year or two of hosting.(72 one year, 120 two). These hosting services will typically do more than one domain for this price.

With these hosting packages, you get access to their web software.

Try it out.

Some people have problems with the abstraction of doing this sort of thing(thinking out what one wants to do it before one does it), which makes working on these very difficult and time consuming. Others find it very easy. It is likely you are on the easy side. In the end, you will not have lost money, because if you hire someone, they are going to need a hosting site, too.

I have hostexellence, and they have been good for the very limited things that I have done with them.

Chris

P.S. Have you considered MySpace? That is not a route that I would pursue, but it may be appropriate. Chris

See the pic - you could change the "ENRON" to "EDDIE".

Make your logo something that you can convey with a sharpie.

If it is more complicated than you can quickly sketch out, I would rethink it.

Good luck, and I agree wholeheartedly to reflect that logo throughout. It is one of the constant battles I have.

Steph and I are working on a layout. She found http://www.buildyoursite.com which has unlimited size and 4,000 templates. She says it looks like allot of fun and wants to do this, so maybe I'm going to get lucky? :D

I've also been playing around with a symbol. I went with the initials theme, but combined them into one symbol. I've tried to do this on paint, but I'm not happy with what I've come up with. It looks childish and very not what I want to put out there.

Does anybody have a program that you can do this and make it look nice?

I want it to look fairly bold, be blue, and have the same proportions as my name next to it.

Thank you,
Eddie

I don't have a program but did a search for Logo program shareware and came up with many hits for programs that may get you started. Microsoft also has a logo program for Windows Vista. Try a sharewar program, when you find one you like you can buy the full version.
