Advice needed on the purchase of a 737 zero turn

New to the forum here and am in need of advice. Thinking of purchasing a 2005 737 zero turn with around 170 hours on it. I have never owned a quality lawn mower before, so I am a little intimidated in purchasing a used piece of equipment without a warranty. This unit is at a local dealer. They will stand by the unit for the first few hours of service. I am guessing my first 3 or 4 cuts. They are asking $5300 for the mower and it is in excellent shape. It was well taken care of from the previous owner who traded it in on a newer unit. It has a 23 hp Kawasaki with a 54 inch deck. This is a commercial grade mower including the air filter, which is the round cylinder type instead of the square. A friend of mine has the same mower in a 2004 with 1500 hours on it and still going strong. Anyone here have any experience with this model and can give me any useful advice? Thanks.

It sounds like the mower is in great shape and if you are comfortable with the price then go for it.

I have had one for 3 seasons now with no issues. I was told by a Deere Mechanic that you must keep the grass blown out of the engine after every use or you will have a valve guide seize and bend a push rod. I do this after every use and have not had the issue. I know others who have had problems but they don't blow theirs out. For normal cutting the 23 hp is plenty and you can mow as fast as you can stay in the seat. I added a spring seat to mine and made a world of difference on the ride. Watch the roll bar if you have never had one before. They will get stuck on branches and power pole guy wires. You will only do it once.

Tell them you want a 30 hour warrenty with the deal. If they claim it is a quality trade in they should have no issues putting that in the deal. I think mine cost around $7500 new but not sure.

Not sure of you location but Sloans in Illinois always has used equipment. They have one with more hours for about $500 less. A 757 is the same machine but with 2 more horse power. 54 or 60" decks.
