Jinma 354, purchased 2007
Hi --

I have a 2007 Jinma 354 that is about ten months old. It has the newer style lift box with only one lever, and the owner's manual I got with it is for the older style two-lever lift box.

Right now, the arms don't start to move until the lever is about half way up. Is there an adjustment I can make so the arms start to move as soon as the lever is moved from the lowest position? Am I losing range because it doesn't start moving until the lever is half way up, or is all-the-way-up all-the-way-up regardless?

I also would like to adjust the height of the arms at their lowest position, so I can set them for the lowest position possible and not have the mower scalp. Right now I have to set the mower about an inch higher than minimum, and it's a pain to have to find the spot again if I raise the mower over an obstacle. Is this just a matter of adjusting the turnbuckles?

Thanks,

I don't have an answer why the lift arms don't respond during the entire range of lever movement. Have you checked the pivot bolt to make sure the lever is actually turning the valve during the entire course of its travel? You might also want to double check the hydraulic fluid level.

But yes - as long as the arms themselves have full travel, that's what counts. All you're missing now is possibly some accuracy in positioning due to the limited control range of the lever.

Two most common ways to adjust the mower cutting height;
1) bottom out the lift lever, adjust cutting height with the TPH vertical links (turnbuckles)
2) use the travel stop feature of the lift control lever
Consult your mower manual for specifics, but it's typical to first adjust the tail wheel height at a setting that will be 1-2" higher than you actually want to cut. Then adjust the TPH/linkage so that the front of the mower is x" lower than the rear, as specified in the manual.
