Adj\'ing the 60\" MMM on a BX...

Greetings.
Just spent the better part of the last couple of hrs mounting and adj'ing the RCK60B-22BX MMM to my BX23 and I think I just may have it adj'ed up to where it's level but it sure took alot of adj'ing!

So much so that it got me to wondering if anyone else had to adj there's similarly..

The MMM's left side was higher than the right side by almost 3/4 inch. The right side blade tip measurement was close enough to the depth guage setting so I used the right side as the reference point.

The front was lower than the rear by almost a 1/2 inch measured blade tip to blade tip facing fore & aft (parallel).

To bring the front & rear to within specs I had to adj the two front links until the diff was roughly 1/4". I adj'ed to raise the front.

To level the MMM side to side I turned the left side lift link down 2 turns and the right side lift link up one turn.

In the MMM manual it indicates to get approx 1/32 to 3/32" gap between the right lift arm and the frame stop at the highest position. Now I haven't figured out how too get that measurement so I just used the ole eyeball and I figure those specs are just about the same as the proverbial "hair" so thats about where it's at. I had to turn the rear link adj nut approx 8 turns in to get there.
The gap on the left side I figure is nearly 1/2" or so now but since theres no mention of the left side gap, I'm not worried about it.

The MMM just about lifts equally now but there seems to be a little play on the right side still. In other words, theres a slight amount of travel on the right side before it starts to lift along w/the left side. It's almost as if the right side drops a hair more than the left and I'm not sure if this is normal or not but the bottom line is that it's now within specs and ready to go!

Anyone else encounter having to adj their MMM this much?

It does run very smooth with very little vibration and it's not nearly as loud as I suspected it would be btw.... Now wheres that spring grass /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh and one more question, I noticed that the PTO coupler collar would lock back makeing it easier to install. Once I got it up onto the PTO securely I barely had to push it to get it to snap shut. I re-did it a couple times with similar results. Is this normal?

Volfandt,

Just wondering if you checked tire pressure before leveling the mower deck?

I think with mine the collar on the drive shaft does come unlocked quite easily when I am putting mine one. I think what you are experiencing there is normal.

Re: Adj\'ing the 60\" MMM on a BX...

Thanks for the input, and yeah, they were right on spec.
That MMM has never been mounted on my BX23 before so this was the initial installation.

They didn't have a 60" MMM when I purchased the BX and I didn't want to wait so I took delivery of the BX sans the MMM, then went back a week later and picked up the MMM.

We haven't had any snow as of yet this yr (which is unusual) and with the combination of the toads down at snapper pond carrying on coupled with the ever expanding clumps of tall green growth spurting up all around the pasture I like to refer to as my lawn, the itch to get the BX ready for mowing duty took over last night /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You are one brave man to do that adjustment. I looked at the book and read about others aggravation doing the adjustment, and realized that I just don't have enough patience to even consider it. For now, I just live with a slightly off level deck. Do you make house calls????? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Adj\'ing the 60\" MMM on a BX...

I am going to have to do mine as I had it in the shop last fall with a defective Hydraulic Control Valve and it came back with everything out of adjustment , even the neutral. They also had overfilled the hydraulic fluid by a quart or so.

They didn't even tighten the nuts on the levers linkage.

I suppose they were mad at me for calling Kubota when they refused to warranty it. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Adj\'ing the 60\" MMM on a BX...

Here is the old post discussing that matter. I called and requested mine on 11/02/04 and it was produced by Kubota on 11/08/04..... signed by the dealer transferring to me on 11/16/04 and mailed on 11/18/04. Guess that your dealer isn't too fast. I suggest that you give the regional Kubota office a call and ask where it is..... Junk

Re: Adj\'ing the 60\" MMM on a BX...

The last time ( month ago) Kubota had already called them twice and wanted a copy of the original invoice faxed to them.

One of the Owners told me that she had to dig it out of the files ,but she would get it done .

It hasn't happened yet, which really comes as no surprise after everything else I have had to contend with from them.

While at the National Farm Machinery Show last weekend I talked to one of the Reps, From Eastern Tn. I believe, He told me He had never heard of such a thing /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

So like always Paul, You are on the cutting edge.

How about getting a position with Kubota and helping us all out? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Approximately forty years ago, I applied for a job after getting out of college with an insurance adjusting firm. They asked me if I could handle the job and my experience. I said that I could handle the job, but had no experience working for an insurance company. They insisted that I have experience. I countered with a proposal. I would work for one week for free and do all the damage appraisals that they gave me without giving up the bank account. They handed me a folder of claims that were still under contention. I settled all but one. I told them that reasonable people can work out their differences if it were approached properly. This is how I settled the claims. I gave a little and so did the body shops. I got the job. Today, many people don't want to be reasonable, they just want to have it their own way, both customers and sales people. Sometimes this is OK, but many times it doesn't happen that way. I have learned a long time ago to get names and telephone numbers and extensions. I have learned over the past year that there was only one person at Kubota that ever returned a call when he said he would. That is how they deal with problems and questions that they don't have the answers to. Say that they will look into it and call you later, then do nothing. I call back and keep after them until I get the response that is required. I always make sure to be polite, but firm in my determination to get to the resolution. Once they realize that you are not going away, then they will deal with it. Remember that the squeaky wheel get the oil. Now, make the call on Monday and every few days until you get the response that the Certificate of Origin will be sent. Then ask when to expect it and if it doesn't arrive on that day, start calling them again, until you get the response that is necessary. If the tractor is financed by Kubota, then you won't get the Certificate until it is paid off, but they will have the invoice information. If it was paid in full, then send a copy of the original invoice to the Kubota office and request it directly. They will send it to the dealer, but at least you will be half way there. This isn't rocket science, don't let them turn it into rocket science. As for working for Kubota, it wouldn't ever happen.. I am too old and they wouldn't like my business manner. If I say it is going to be done, then it is going to be done. I wouldn't dance around a problem, but would resolve it even if it meant an expensive replacement. If it is broken, then fix it. At Kubota, nothing is broken, because they can sell all the product that they manufacture and service after the sale doesn't mean much. I come from a service oriented backround..... these people don't... Sales are all that count, and service after the sale counts for very little. This is why it is important to find a good dealership to work with. Price isn't everything.
