Adding Guages

I have started adding temperature and oil pressure guages to my YM1700. I wanted to use T's so I can use the lights and mechanical guages, but I can't find a 16mmx1.5 T and nipple for the temperature. For the oil pressure I need a T and nipple that's 1/8-28 (BSP). ANY IDEAS ON WHERE TO GET THESE????????

Several of us have added gauges to a Yanmar, if you do a search, you'll find them all. I didn't use a tee, just the new gauges. I'll attach a link to a pic allenp posted of his oil sending unit with a tee. He used 1/8" NPT thread.

The tee for the temp unit may not work so well.....you'd have to use a tee and some extensions, the part that goes into the water flow is longer than a tee. Thats another problem, the pick-up unit will not be in the water flow to give you and accurate reading.

Use sunpro adpt.kits for your hook up. The oil kit part no.is cp7575 and the water temp kit is part no. cp7574 you can get these auto zone parts supply.

I got the oil pressure T'd in and I have the adapter for the temperature probe, I guess I'll just hook it up and not worry about the light on it.

Inspector507 is dead on...he usually is!!! Not a good idea to extend your temp probe outside of fluid flow in the block. It may not read correctly(likely to read low)...and could lead to NOT knowing true temp...very dangerous to your engine.

You may be able to put the temp probe through a NEW hole in your block but this would have to be done very carefully: 1) ?enough flow in new spot? 2)cracking the block...oops that would stink 3)get rid of the metal shavings. Not at all impossible...but I doubt it is worth the trouble unless you are already removing and totally rebuilding the block.

Others may disagree, but I don't want to drill new holes in my perfectly functioning engine. I have never done this so I would be very wary. Others may see this as easy and not a problem...if so listen to those that have done this...not to my "opinio" only.

PS...I do love the gauges though! see my other thread about ones on sale at Sunpro.

I saw a guy split his radiator hose.. and install a section of metal pipe in it.. tapped it for the water sensor.( look like he soldered or brazed a fitton onto the pipe.. ?) Looked decent.. didn't leak.. etc.

I'm not sure the thread on the sensor.. but perhaps you can get lucky and find a 'T' fitting that has a small threaded section that will accept the sensor.. or can be bushing'd to, then just get hose barbs or smooth pipe for the large openings to connect them into the radiator hose. You may loose? 4" of hose.. but if it works... that would be a deal.
