Figured it was time to oil and lube the cutter but when I popped the cap off the filler port on the gear box, there appears to be a small steel bead blocking it. I don't remember that being there before. What's going on? Only thing I can figure is that I over-filled it and the oil expanded and forced something up in there. Or do I line up the hole in the bead to add oil? Near as I can remember, all I did before was squirt it in.

Also posting another mower question, so if you're an expert, help me on that too! Thanks.

Sounds like that is not the fill port, but a VENT with a little check ball. On both of the Bush Hog gearboxes I work with the oil fill is just a NPT pipe plug. Fill to the bottom of the threads.

That was beginning to dawn on me! In fact, If I had not thought I remembered adding oil at the top, I am sure I would have noticed what was really what. That was probably a false memory. Thanks.
