Previously i towed small trailers without brakes or rentals with surge. I just bought a Big Tex 70CH with electric brakes. Installed a Prodigy controller. I tow with 1/2 ton Avalanche 4X4.
I am very pleased with set up. Towed my sons Jeep nd couple tons of wood pellets no problems. I have a 6 X 12 enclosed trailer that I am thinking about adding brakes.
My question is is there any downside to having brakes on 3000lb single axle trailer.

None that I can think of. Not a hard project to do.

Thanks for the reply's. I couldn't think of downside myself besides cost which is offset be the feeling of confidence when braking.
Thanks again.

The only "down side" really is one more maintenance item to take care of, i.e. brake shoes to adjust, clean, and replace. These are minor items though and it's still worth the upgrade and will only help your truck's brakes last longer.
