Adding angle, tilt and offset cylinders the right way to a Woods RB850

Its going on a small JD compact tractor? Don't worry about the cylinder sizes or relief valves, you aren't going to break it. Clean everything up and use it. If you were putting it on a 10,000 lb tractor you might consider the relief valves, maybe.

I've got an 8 ft leon with the offset, tilt, angle, no rv's. They used it on a 130 hp Ford/NH 8630 and it never hurt it.

I wouldn't call a JD 5085M a small compact tractor, :confused2: no it isn't some monster, but the blade will fit it well. ;)

Oops! Looked in the profile and saw a small JD 4400 or something. Not that a 5085 is a monster. I'd still say skip the reliefs unless you are really going to work it hard a lot, the pinned version doesn't have the rv protection either. If a cross over rv and fittings was cheap, it would be a different story maybe.

Also, re the small cylinder rods, absolute worst case is when swung to the side of full extension of the rod, you hit something hard and bend the rod. So you bent a 60$ tie rod cylinder. Not the end of the world.

I updated my profile to avoid any confusion. :)

I'll reuse the existing offset and tilt cylinders and get a surplus center 3.5x1.5x16 angle cylinder (3516-FMA), skip the rv valves, and get 3/8 hose w/ #6 JIC.

Btw, there is a sticker on the blade warning that warranty is void if used on tractor over 100HP and 10,000 lbs, so I doubt I'll be able to hurt the blade or cylinders.

One last question, should I get the Connect Under Pressure tip on my ISO couplers, or does the regular ones work just as well? I know when I have left my loader sitting out in the summer sun, it can be a real pain to reconnect as the heat expands the fluid and created pressure. Would the pressure relief tips prevent this?

Really appreciate all the great advice!

You will find that pretty much all the bigger 8' and up rear blades are designed very similar, especially all the hydraulic actuated blades.

If you want to save a few dollars, forget all the JIC stuff. Yes it is better and can be taken apart many many times. WHY? You are running your hoses from your cylinders up to your QDs. The QD ends are 1/2" male AG ends with pipe thread. The only time that you need to take anything apart is to replace it. I ran all pipe thread ends on my rear blade, they don't leak and I have never had a reason to take anything apart. It may be different if the cylinders were JIC, but they are not.

Just my :2cents:

Email me if you want a deal on your hoses. ;)

I finally got my blade done. I ordered all new hoses from Surplus Center along with relief valves (the Prince model they carry fits nicely), and fittings. I did go with the #8 JIC hoses as the cost was pretty much the same. Tsc did a price match on the missing 3.5x16 cylinder so it actually ended up costing less than ordering it from Surplus Center once you factored in shipping. I re-painted the bad looking originals. Turned out pretty nice I think.

I'm still waiting on my 5085M but the dealer was nice enough to let me borrow this New Holland until it gets here. Only problem is that I can only have 1 remote, so I can only operate one function at a time.

Nice work!
What part number were the reliefs?
I have woods 800

Thanks! :)
Did you have to make or buy the plate for angle? Looks newer, plus my Woods 800 does not look the same.
Any other Woods parts needed?

Yes, I did have to buy the plate that the angle cylinder attaches to. Here's what the blade looked like when I first got it:

And here's a shot of the plate:

Pricey sucker. Was almost $400 discounted from my dealer, but it was the only part needed (other than the cylinder, hoses, etc of course).
