Adding accessories to powder coated trailers

The problem is not the durability of the PC, it's what happens when it chips and rust or corrosion sets in to the underlying metal. In my experience paint handles that better by blistering on a smaller scale. PC, perhaps because it is more durable and more of a stronger material, flakes of in larger chunks. For whatever reason, it seems to accelerate the process compared to paint.

There should be a zirconium pretreat and a zinc powder primer underneath the top coat. In the event that you damage the top coat, they will protect the underlying metal from corrosion. If the powder is flaking off in large chunks, it's due to improper/poor prep.

If it gets scratched/chipped down to the metal, through the pretreat and primer, I don't see how it matters. Once rust/corrosion sets in and gets under those layers, they aren't going to magically defy physics. That does not jive with my experience with PC on steel or aluminum. Once the metal itself is exposed and rusts or corrodes, it's off to the races.
