Well today the shudder or "miss" became pretty constant. Me and my father-in-law took the car to Advance Auto and had them scan the computer. It came back with a "cylinder 1 misfire" code, I forget the code number. The guy at Advance cleared the code. On the way home the care ran great. By the time we got home, it had started again, but only at take off. We pulled the #1 plug and found it had a couple cracks in the ceramic. The plugs (and wires) only have about 25-30k on them. They're replacement Motorcraft Platinum plugs. Made another trip to the parts store and bought 1 new plug. Put it in and the problem's still there. Tested the resistance on that plug wire. It came back at 9900 ohms. My FIL said it should have about 5k ohms per ft. Does that sound right? I don't know. Then we decided to test the coil pack as described in the Haynes manual. It said the primary resistance should be 0.5 ohms on each of the three pins of the coil pack conector. We read 0.8 ohms on each. The Haynes manual said the secondary resistance should be 13,600 ohms. We read 11,660 across #1 & 5, 11,440 across #3 & 4 and #2 & 6. We have a Taurus just like this one at work and tomorrow I'm going to test the coil pack to compare. Does it sound like that may be the problem?
