Is there a web site that shows the liquid system you refer to?

Try searching for "liquid de-icers"
or go to plowsite.com and search there. They have a whole section on de-icing with pics and links.

Are they as harmful as salt to machine and road surfaces?

new formulations much less corrosive than any salt subtance

new formulations avail with low phosphorus - the main cause of runoff polution to waterways (result of a NY EPA report)

i ordered the bobcat 75gallon sprayer and the 10ft boom (much cheaper) off the 50 gallon sprayer. will fabricat a custom hitch attachment. bobcat authorizes use of de-icers in the sprayer. only question is: will i need to use any salt also? the main selling point of de-icers is that when mixed with salt they reduce the amount of salt needed by more than the cost of the de-icer, they lower the temperature of effectiveness of the salt, and they help the salt bind to the road. the counties here are constantly salting - all winter long - you can see the liquid de-icer tanks on the backs of the trucks. will use the sprayer in the summer also.
hopefully the deicer will be all i need to get rid of the ice with the broom. i have had very good luck with my broom so far this winter.
