hi,
This is kinda a weird question, but I'm asking incase I need to be concerned.

Today, I was working my 1601d very hard: shovel loading (FEL) broken up concrete to then be loaded into a roll-off container. 15 yards.

Sometimes, while loading on a stretch of black top, with tires (rear) spinning, I would smell really obnoxious acrid smoke (I think from the stack). Engine was under max load, probably at 2500RPM. somtimes seemed to be lugging from the load, but then I'd back off... Is this a sign of anything to be more concerned of, or just overworking?

I can't get my truck to do this, even while pulling 12K (of course the smoke is far behind me), or my smaller tractor when cutting heavy stuff or plowing stuff....

I'm shutting this poor guy down in 2 weeks after a very heavy summer and want to know if I should plan for some more than average maintenance ;-)

as always, thanks guys..

Could possibly be the clutch?.........Rubber burning from the tires spinning?........Not sure.

P.S......I don't fully know the situation your in, but why don't you try lowering your rpms a little anyway???............Try using the tractor's transmission gears to do the work, Not the engine rpms........Everybody's different, but thats how I usually do it...To me, it saves a lot of 'wear and tear' and fuel.

My guess is also tires or clutch..

Lugging is when you give it more throttle but engine rpms do not go up.

I over-looked the 'lugging' part................I would definitely change gears without a doubt.

"I would smell really obnoxious acrid smoke (I think from the stack)."

It might be important to determine, before making any recommendations.

Could it be a dead mouse?

About a month back i fired up my 7610s and headed down to the pasture to mow.. On the way a horrible smell came fromt he left side of the engine.. when i pulle dover to open the gate, i could make out a rat/mouse that had gotten caught betweent he head and the exhaust manifold.. he was sizzling pretty good.. gosh what an awfull smell.

I grabbed a stick and tried to remove the carcass.. but he was so well cooked that only 'most' of him came off... whew.. that was a long day mowing.. I mad alot of right turns to stay outta the wind on that side..

Oh my gosh, what a gross story!

Nah, don't think I have a mouse. I was just working some more, didn't re-occur. This was happening yesterday while kinda raming into a concrete pile with the FEL, and about 2200+ RPM.

It either smells like something other than oil is burning in the engine, or something outside of it altogether is burning. Wish i could be more specific... And, tractor is smoking pretty constantly now, but not using or burning any oil... I'm not doing the fluids on it today, so I'll see how it runs after some service...

I think it might have been my clutch yesterday...

I don't know what it is Arthr but u always tell such exciting stories! Clutch would be my guess? You were prob pushing so hard against an imovable object that either u lose traction or the clutch slips or the engine dies. By the way....don't do that!

thanks, i know this now...
but, the tractor did a fantastic job of moving 15 yards of broken up concrete in about 3.5 hours...
