Buying Advice AC 7040

Hi all! There is a local auction coming up in my area. They have an Allis Chalmers 7040 up for auction. I am interested in buying a larger tractor for tillage. What do these tractors sell for and what should I look for on the tractor? They will also have a nice looking 2940 John Deere, however i was told tht these tractor have a lower resale value and have hydralic issues?This will be my first larger tractor so I am some what cautious. Also are these tractors good for their time? Any insight will help thanks!

Can't help you on what to look for (I was raised on blue tractors), but here's some listings that might give you an idea concerning price:
