AC 170 quits running...

Runs fine for a while then I hear the engine rev up just a bit...then its like I turn off the fuel...(which is whats wrong I think)... something is causing the fuel to not flow....
I just inherited this tractor,,, changed all the filters...
I checked the bowl under the tank,,, full
and glass bowl below the fuel filter,....full...

usually when u let it set at 30min or longer... you can crank it a few times and it will fire back up.. whats causing this... any ideas???

If it has the rubber plunger for priming the fuel system check that out. I have an AC200 that was doing the same thing & the tip of the plunger was loose letting it suck in air. I could see small bubbles in the glass fuel filter when it was running.

IT would be helpful if you told us wether it was gas or diesel

Diesel... sorry LD1...thanks for the plunger tip... ill check that and look for bubbles.

Are you sure you got all the air out of the lines when you changed filters??

No, how would I be sure...?
I did run for 30- 45 min before this happened.
and it has happened before I changed the filter

I am not that familiar with the diesel version but the engine should have a purge screw located close to the injection lines...
You should be able to open it up a bit to purge the air out of the lines...
I ran my 1720 New Holland out of diesel 1 time and it was easy to get her back up and running using the purge screw...

U know.... I got to thinking after this happened and thought back to the changing of the fuel filter... there was a layer of "sludge" in the sediment bowl....
I am wondering if a thorough cleaning of the fuel tank may be in order...?
if so... what would it take to accomplish this...?
