? about Pat\'s ez change install

Hey guys,

I have a set of cat 2 pats ez change sitting in the truck that I am planning on installing tomorrow. I was reading all of the info on the install and was wondering a couple of things. Will it work ok if I just put the main pins through the hitch/ez change system and not bolt on the other parts/shims? I may have to take it on/off some to use some different implements and it sure would be alot easier if I could just get away with pulling the two big pins and taking it off. Any advice would be great! This is going on a kubota 5040 tractor if that helps. thanks!

Re: ? about Pat\'s ez change install

The forged housings don't fit tight on the lower link arms. If you don't use the U bolt and shims, you'll get a lot of movement in the forging (it'll pivot about the lower link pin).

I don't know if the movement would damage the link arms or the easy change forging. I would expect some peening of the lower link arm.

You're right Roy. It will move around a bit. It really doesn't take that long to loosen things up and remove it if needed.

Lee, Hope your installation went OK today I can't offer much advice since mine won't be here from PAt's until Monday but I'd sure love to hear any reccommendations you have after you finish installing them and better yet how do they work.

thanks fellas. I put the system on as instructed and hooked up to my ccm tiller that I just received. It made a 10 minute project by myself to literally a 1 minute project. I should have purchased these things years ago! If it doesn't rain tomorrow then I am probably going to unhook the tiller and hook up to something else. I think that the pats system is some of the best money I've spent on tractors.

Lee, Great to hear. I'll have mine on Monday I can't wait, were the instructions improved from what the prior post have said about them, the only bad comments/problems I've heard that haven't been addressed about Pat's system is the instructions were lacking.

They make it sound more complicated than it is. I ended up using two spacers on the inside and the actual install took us about 15 minutes once we figured out how it went together.

Hmmm....guess we're going to have to kick you out of the club. Rule #27...never read the directions. Remember...as guys we ignore the directions, put it together, tell the wife that there were extra parts and then secretly read them when it doesn't work.

Seriously..I've been using mine for 4 months and couldn't be happier. Best purchase I made for the tractor. One thing I found is that I have to bolt on the washers for the implements without a clevis attach (pin only).

I have my Cat 2 Pat's, but no tractor. Won't be here for 2 weeks. Is there any way to hook up a drawbar with the Pat's units installed - or do you have to take them off? Doesn't sound like it's too bad to take them off/put them on, though.

Did you have to make any changes to your PTO shaft length and/or top link connection for the various attachments you have?

Thanks.

Andy

I didn't have to change any PTO shafts. I only had to adjust the top link. I haven't used the drawbar but looking at mine I don't think I would have to change anything to use it.

Are you wanting to use this type of drawbar? (See attached)
If so, no nothing special to do to use it. However it will pivot so you may need to fabricate something to combat that.

I was wondering what the offset measurement is for the pin to where it will extend to with the pats hitch.
I have heard 2 inches, but also see someone claims to have 4 inches.
Any feedback on how this effected anyones top link?
Anyone have the hydraulic top link? and how much of a travel difference did it make?
Thanks
Allan

I'm sure exactly but I think mine was 3" to 4"? Anyway, the Hydraulic top link I got was longer than my stock top link so it worked out perfectly.

Allan,
Cat 1 is 3 3/4". I measured mine. I only needed to extend my top link, not replace it. I would think you would need a different top link if you had Pat's EZ change vs. without it.

Depends on what size you buy. The Cat 2 I got extended my KAMA lift arms by a full 4-1/2 inches

Did you install CAT1 or CAT2?
I have a 2007 5040 also.
I am a grading contractor and change attachments dozens of times a day.
Hope fully Pats will help, I just need to know what size to order that fits on our CAT 2 lift arms?

I looked up the M5040 on the Kubota website, to confirm the Cat2 lift system. That means a Cat1 PEC will not install properly on your Cat2 lower lift arms. The diameter of the PEC pin that goes through the lift arm swivel ball is too small. Even if you cut down an adapter bushing, the Cat1 PEC inside dimensions would likely be too small as well.

However, you can order your PEC based upon both TPH and implement category. A straight Cat2 PEC is for a Cat2 tractor lift that mates to Cat2 implement pins. A Cat2/1 PEC is for a Cat2 tractor lift that mates to Cat1 implement pins. But then, you're not going to lift Cat1 implements with it.

I bought a straight Cat2 PEC so that I can lift both Cat1 and Cat2 implement pins. Lifting Cat2 implements is a straightforward procedure. And when lifting Cat1 implements, I simply slip adapter bushings and PEC Cat 1 washers over the Cat1 lift pins.

If you do as I do, remember to specify both Cat1 and Cat2 lift pin washers when you order your PEC
