On the way to work every day I pass through some big acreage farm land. One is farmed by a mega-farm outfit. Some amazing equipment. Last week a John Deere pulling a disk pulled out on the road and it had three ag tires on each hub. I've seen a lot of duals but this was the first triple on each hub that I have ever seen. It ran me and all the cars completely off the road and into the grass. The tractor was a JD 8970.

I see triples out here every so often. Most guys around here are a little smaller than that, though.

I did see a JD 9630 go through the stoplight the other day. It only had duals on each, but that thing's got 530 HP at the engine. A 13.5l straight six.

Tripples are around, but rare. Duals are much more common.

Surprisingly dont see many tracked tractors.

He must have had the triples for flotation - he shouldn't need them for only 400 hp. As you get much bigger though they get more common.

Our renter uses a Versatile 875 with triples. Our land is so soft and spongy and tends to have wet spots that like sucking up tractors. He said he hates getting stuck because all the other farmers come along, take pictures and laugh. That's probably partially why he's running triples. I've seen a couple other farmers in the area running Challengers recently. Those tracks certainly seem to do the trick.

If I had the extra money, I'd be tempted to get duals for my Fordson.

I knew a farmer in Pa that took the duels off and put float tires on it. He said he had the same as triples on it with out the width, so he could run it on the road better. I think he also did it because it looked supper cool.

We have loads of dual and a few triple JD's. What there is most of are tracked JD's, Cat's & CaseIH. Massive acres of wheat fields to the west and south of my location. Probably the largest operation in this area is west of my location. Its owned/operated by the Hutterites. They are similar to the Mennonites & Amish but are a branch of the Anabaptists. I've been to their compounds and seen a lot of their farm equipment. Their fields are so large that a single tractor & moldboard plow can continue in one direction in a field for more than eight hours in a straight line and not reach the end of the field.
Makes you feel VERY SMALL when you observe an operation such as this.

I had a friend with family out there. Hard to believe, but they'd burn 2-300 gallons of diesel in each of them things each day they were out there. Wouldn't want to foot the bill for that.

I had a big farmer tell me this spring that he didn't like JD's track tractors because the ride is too rough. I doubt i'll ever have a chance to feel the difference. :(

He hasn't seen "rough" until he gets to work a rocky field using an old D6, TD9 or the like :)
