A travesty you should know about

On Richard's behalf I do not see that he is being defensieve about the issue so much as being frustrated - as I am - with the ignorance of some individuals that view themselves as the sole saviours of the animial kingdom with total ignorance that the leather in their shoes and on the seats of their Volvos is not synthetic but came from the backs of live critters.
And while I am at it - horses are not pets but are working animals - just try to house break one and let me come look at your litter box following that exercise!
And as for the mistreating of PMU foals please come on over to my place and lay your eyes on the 16.3, 1400lb mistreated baby that is currrently clearing 4' jumps with enthusiasim - he really looks like he is ready for the killers and has been sorley mistreated.
As for adopting one - looks like we was had - as I laid down some pretty serious green for this critter when he was a mere weanling from Canada. For the uninformed and it looks there are several here about - these four legged critters are very much in demand and are being imported by the 100's as Sporting Horses in return for the American Green.
Come on troops lets leave this kinda stuff to the hankie heads with PETA labels tatooed on their fore-parts.

Come on troops!--- lets leave the PETA doo-doo else where and get a gripp on reality here!

Rich,
By all means I'm glad that you started this post and you are one of the kindest speaking and a complete gentleman in your side of the issue. I am not the least bit mad at you or incensed about your posting or calling it a travesty. You saw both sides of the issue and related that. Most of the people that are on the other side refuse to see anything but their side of it even when you point out the opposite view. You have stated your opinion very eloquently and with class. I'm a little brass at times. You're a good guy Rich keep it up. No hard feelings from my side at all.

Jor El,
My email addresses are mesasage@machlink.com at the office and mesasage@msn.com at home.

As an aside to everyone that is interested in buying these foals you can just go straight to the ranches and buy them. As foals they sell them for a couple hundred dollars, if that, after they are weaned depending on if they are papered or not. The papered ones are usually bought for a little higher price. Much less than the adoption price. If you're really interested I can set you up with the North Dakota ranches and give you names of guys that will ship them for you. You don't have to pay a fortune to adopt one.

oh ... another thought .... if any of this was reported by Dan Rather or any of his leftist buddies from any of the major networks on one of those quasi-news shows (like 20/20) ... well, there's your positive proof that there's nothing behind the story but thin air!

too bad that common sense ain't

Wingnut and gvw thanks for the words, well said in my opinion.

Muhammad sent me an email that he deleted the article because of copyright reasons. If anyone wants it I can email it to them. Just let me know I have it saved on my computer.

Richard,

As I told you privately, I appreciate your info-and-experience sharing on this issue.

I understand Muhammad's deletion, but would like to have you e-mail me the article. My girlfriend was looking forward to reading it, as the whole Premarin "thing" is a topic among the women she works with (*and she is also interested in the animal-treatment issues).

Thanks again (received your reply a-ok), /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rich,

I'm glad you posted otherwise I never would have heard of this. My wife gets most of the magazines CowBoyDoc mentioned but I don't read 'em. I spending alot of time clearing land for pasture, barns, house, etc. Because of what CowBoyDoc posted I have some options on getting new horses. My wife has one and I'm sure my little girl will eventually want on of these four legged critters that eats money..... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

As an aside on the Enviroment Wackos /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif, there was an editorial in the Wall Street Journal today about the water rights/supply in the Klamath valley. The Environmental groups have sued to stop water from being given to the ranchers and farmers becase the EPA has said that some little critter, a snail or slug or was it a fish, is endangered. The biologists can't decide HOW much water the critters need so the farmers/ranchers get none/little. I think there has been some vandalism on the locks to get the water to flow and the US Marshalls have had to come in to guard the facilities.(Thats from another news report) Anyway the court stopped the water to the ranchers/farmers so they are basically dead and out of business. The price per acre before the water was stopped was about $3,500. Supposedly its below a hundred now. Not sure I believe that but that is what the paper said. The Environmental groups are now wanting the government to buy out the ranchers/farmers at $4,000 per acre. I can believe the buyout. Some E-Groups want to have all humanity living in cities with densities as high as 500 people per acre which is a couple of times the density of the densist part of NYC. Again, according to the WSJ. I would believe this as well.

Food for thought. I hope. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Later...
Dan

gvw, I said considering a horse a pet is my own personal bias, neither right or wrong, just my opinion. Additionally, as I have accidently shown by starting this thread, is there is alot of misinformation out there (on the web or other places), and it was my mistake to completely believe an extreme view. However, as Richard has pointed out, there is some truth to the original story, and much misinformation.

I admit that I tend to take a much more liberal (has that become a dirty word again?) and animals rights oriented view than many members of TBN, but we all must maintain an open mind to both sides of every issue, or we'll learn nothing. PETA should not be completely discounted. They take some extremist and silly views on many things, but on others they may be correct.

It's important to avoid stereotyping anything, because we end up attacking innocent people. Case in point, the trouble Richard had in rodeoes. I know that Richard would never be a part of anything that abused an animal (or person), yet he was attacked by activists who were unbelievably wrong. Activists can be wrong, and often are, but labeling them all as "environ-weirdos" is also wrong.

I learn alot on TBN by just reading, and taking in everyones opinion, whether I agree or not. I've learned alot, from people who have a totally different point of view than I do. Let's all repect each others opinions, not call each other, or our "camps" names, and I think we'll learn alot.

There's a lesson to be learned in this thread. I thought there was a travesty going on. It seems there isn't. Now, my own personal bias makes me upset at the reality of horses being used for food. I'm trying to do my little part by saving at least one horse. That's my thing. It's not wrong or right, it just is. If someone else thinks horsemeat is a delicacy, that's their thing. Is one of us more right than the other? Depends on your point of view. If we all had the same opinions it would be a boring world!!

Just my opinion. Peace to all!! (uh-oh, just exposed myself to be the ex-hippie that I am!!) Let's all stay friends, this is a great group, and I'm proud to be a member!!

Rich
