I have a 18'x33' swimming pool filled to a depth of 49"

It has a leak /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The leak is currently 2" every 14 hours. I am also siphoning the pool with a 3/4"garden hose with approx. 1' of "head".

The pool's automatic filler was turned off a 9:30am when I started the garden hose siphon.

<font color="green"> When will the pool be empty? </font>

P.S. the forecast for the next 3 days is showers with .4" rain today, .32" tonight, & .12" tomorrow, followed by a day of sun /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'm not falling for that! This is one of those half full - half empty tests, isn't it? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The rain will raise the water table and pop the pool out of the ground...then it will be easy to empty

What is the ambient temperature so I can calculate evaporation on the sunny day?
No, nevermind.... I have a pot I need to watch come to a boil /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Are there two trains coming from oposite directions at different speeds that might pass by creating a wind condition too??

Where is the leak? Unless it is at the lowest point, it won't completely drain the pool. When you say the siphon has 1' of head, I assume you mean the outlet is 1' below the 49" water level. If so, the siphon will not completely drain the pool, either.

I'm leaning toward "never".

Why are you using a garden hose to siphon it out? Why don't you use the "waste" feature on the pump? Just curious... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

And a final question. At what point will the pool be emptied enough that the neighbors kids will go home?

When we drained our above ground pool (and removed it), we ran the waste function on the pump as much as we could. We hooked the vac hose up so it sucked a lot of the water out.

Your 1" hose is going to take FOREVER. If you don't use the waste function, at least use the pool vac hose to siphon. I calculate the volume of your water to be a little over 18K gallons. If you use a 20GPM pump to remove it, you're looking at 15+hours! You need to be aware that dumping 18K gallons on the ground makes a lot of mess, so see what's downhill from ya.......

Your post didn't say if you are taking it out, putting in a new liner, or just patching it. (If patching and you can find the leak, pool guys can do that with water in it.)

Not clear if this is a shrill post or not, so my answer is "C".

Not sure what a "shrill post" is..

This was just an question that a buddy & I spent a 12 pack contemplating the other day..

I am replacing the liner, The leak is at the bottom. I patched the area last year, but the liner was installed over 2" Styrofoam with no means of joining the pieces together. The liner stretched into the grooves of the Styrofoam & is giving way in more places this year.

The pool is currently down 18-19", & will probably be empty by next weekend when I have a day off to replace the liner.

The reason we didn't "pump down" the pool was because of the 18k gallons of water that I didn't want washing away my freshly plowed & planted field /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
