Now that cabs are becoming more common, along with creature comforts in them; would you have a leather seat if it was offered as an option?

I have cloth seats in my truck and I like them; but it takes a bit of work to clean them if they get stained. So I'm thinking a practical leather seat might be a good option in a tractor. By practical, I don't mean Lexus luxury leather; but something durable and relatively easy to clean. After all, leather is the original all weather soft seating surface that was used in cars long before vinyl seats were invented.

I want to get a plain old cloth type seat cover. I can't see the cloth seat staying too clean over a decade or so. Plus if you had to get out of the cab and got dirty, if the seat is covered you don't have to worry about getting back in and messing things up.

I would not want leather. Grease on it would be a problem, same concerns over time. You're right on the money with "durable and relatively easy to clean". A seat cover is nice because if it gets too bad you can just replace it. I have seat covers over the cloth seats in my truck too.

I think a leather seat would be easy to keep clean. Most of the time I have a rag hanging out of my back pocket anyway

My wife has leather seats in her car with AC and heating built into it. I have used leather before and sweat too much, so if it came with air flowing through it, yes, otherwise I will be using seat covers and throw them away when they get dirty. Cabela's has some good economical ones.

I'm one of those people that don't like leather seats although I must admit that the seats in my wife's SUV do smell good. I prefer cloth but the back seat in the crew cab and the van do have covers on them.

I like the seat cover idea for the tractor though. I must admit that it can get a little dusty at times. I need to check that out.

My Dad recovered an ATV seat with leather. I remember laughing at him but 10 years later the seat still looks good and his ATV gets used/worked hard.

Nothing like straddling a hot black leather seat left out in the sun:confused2:

I am not real fond of the plastic seat that comes with my tractor, but I definitely wouldn't want cloth beause it would get dusty in the summer.

I think a leather seat would be great! I have had them in my pickups for years. They don't get dirty! The stock seat is nice too!

My Mitsubishi seat was the standard vinyl type and it split from age.
Got tired of looking at the dirty duct tape repair!

Having, by luck, 1/2 a hide that was matching (blue) in color I decided to do a DIY upholstry job.
(some contact cement and re-used the edge trim)

Best darn upgrade on my tractor! (creature comfort wise)

It is NOT clamy cold in winter like the plastic was. (actually feels like it was pre-heated)
Not sweaty in the summer. (leather 'breathes')
and -much less slippery to sit on.

So far, no cleaning issues, perhaps it was a stain resistant treated hyde.

Piloon:

It's good to hear the DIY leather seat is working well for you. You describe very well the reasons I like leather.

I can see the reason for vinyl seats on an open station tractor; but I can't stand vinyl because its hot in summer, cold in winter, and it doesn't breathe.

Hi, . . my JD-3520-Cab,..has a cloth seat. It is sort of a multi colour "tan" which looks good, hides the general dust and dirt and with the seat being extremely well sprung, (adjustable spring to your weight and bounce),...I'm extremely happy with it winter and summer.

The JD mechanic has been in and out a few times and thus far, no signs of dirt and grease. Although they "know" this is my Rolls and are careful.

I vacuum out the cab at least once a year and the seat still looks good with over 950 hours but then again, "I" am the "only" operator. (same with my truck).

I think it's safe to say that I prefer the cloth seat.

CHEERS!
. . tug

PS: ...I never thought of a "seat-cover",..but now that it has been mentioned, I will either make or buy one very soon,...great idea! I have a goodly skin of Elk-hyde left over from having custom cowboy boots made, that would fit, breath and look good! I would put the rough side out as there is nothing,..."nothing",... softer nor more luxurious than elk!! Thanks.

I'm a fan of cloth seats. I know many people including my father who've had growths removed from the tailbone from driving tractors in the days of hard or steel seats and sweating and bouncing on plastic seats for 12 hours a day gives them all repocussions. I don't like leather either if you wear shorts or like me often drive without a shirt all that sticking and clinginess.....naaaah
A good quaility seat with arm rests and cloth cover is always the favourite !

The large farm tractors (JD 8530 & JD8320) that I drive, have cloth seats, and I don't think I would want leather. If you often work on a slope, I also would want cloth to keep from sliding around. If you are worried about dirt, get a cover.
