A Manly Pickup

Dougster, I guess we've all heard the old "use it or lose it" saying, but I've also heard for PPS to "conserve it to preserve it". At least one article by a doctor that I read said that many polio victims go through life working harder to try to prove they can keep up with, or outdo, others, but then when PPS starts, they need to change and learn to take it easy and rest more.

You know the 10 week course of the FBI National Academy has a number of "options" for courses you can elect to take or not, but everyone is required to participate in their physical training (PT) course, and a great deal of it is running or jogging. The maximum age to get into that program is 50 and I didn't go until I was 46, and I was never into running or jogging for exercise. So I expected to be embarrassed by bring up the rear, so I can't tell you how relieved I was to always find about a third of the guys behind me.:D There was no danger of me ever leading the pack, but at least I wasn't at the back end either.:D Of course, I was 50 pounds lighter then than I am now.

Well, thanks, Mike. Yes, I think I've led a pretty interesting life through good times and bad. But I consider myself lucky and think the good times outnumbered the bad.:D And I've met a lot of good folks, many of whom gave me a little boost along the way. Even found what's probably one of the few women in the world who could put up with me, so I married her a little over 44 years ago.:D

Yesterday my wife and I attended the first annual Peanut Proud Expo in Blakely, GA. Blakely is/was the home to one of the two Peanut Corporation of America facilities. The greed of just a very few has thrown the whole peanut industry in a turmoil. A lot of good people have lost their jobs and, not knowing what the demand for peanuts will be, the farmers don't know how much to plant, if any. It is estimated that the acreage in peanuts will be 30% less this year.

We decided to attend the Expo, just for a little bit of morale support. Blakely is located a little over an hours drive west of us and it was a nice spring Saturday morning drive.

Ok, so much for the background.
The first picture is a 'pickup' powered by peanut biodiesel.
Second is a NICE size JD tractor with a 12 row peanut planter(in transport mode). Just for reference for the size, my wife is 6 foot 5 inches tall.
Oh, well, that's a lie, but that tractor is big.
Third, another bigun.

I live a few minutes on the other side of the Bridge, in Al.
I came over for the Peanut Pride and will in the future. I had a great time.

I was born in Athens,GA and lived there for 30 years. I miss boiled peanuts that could be found for sale on the side of a rural Georgia road. :licking:
