I looked at the Tundra, but since I'm not doing commercial work with my tractor, I didn't need a vehicle to trailer it around. So I went with the Tacoma. Like Dusty, I haven't had a single real thing to complain about. Reliable, no real design flaws that I can find, gets about 25 mpg on average. Moved a lot of light cargo with it. It's what I would have expected from the old Ford Rangers, if Ford hadn't gotten greedy and stupid and stopped making them.
That said, if I were Toyota, I'd make the backup camera also selectable for reviewing on demand. There are times I want to know if I'm dragging something but can't stop to check, or need to know if there's something/someone behind me even if I'm not backing up.
There's also something to be said for the Toyota Prius Hybrid drive system. The only vehicles with true cruise control, where they regulate your speed even when going down hill, seem to be the hybrids with regenerative braking. I set cruise control on the pickup, I have to remember to hit the brakes going down hill. The wife's Prius, I can set it and forget it. If Toyota decided to do an experimental compact pickup with their hybrid drive, I might be very tempted to get one, if only because the electric wheel drive is smoother and packs more torque than a gas or diesel. Yeah, I know they don't make a lot of noise and won't win a quarter mile; but that's not what I buy a truck for anyway.
