A little oopsie, an early 50 hour service, filter?

Well folks, not sure how it happened but in the attached picture you can see a crunched Hydro filter. I noticed no difference in operation and the other filter didn't heat up. As soon as I noticed it I headed for the trailer. It appears that the damage was not from below but rather from the side and above so a skid plate may not have helped.

So now at 46 hours I will go ahead and do the 50 hour service.

My dealer is about 1.25 hours away and I have a good NAPA dealer close by. My question.... what are the filters? Does anyone know the wix equivalent? For all three? I plan to find some hydro/trans oil for the tranny and delo400 15-40 for the engine oil. Anything else?

Oh and I plan a filter autopsy to see if the filter media ruptured and spilled the trapped dirt into the hyd fluid.

I just did one similiar to yours and it created quite a hyraulic leak.....and might I add in not a real accessable spot! My filter crash forced an early 100 hour service along with a second hydraulic fluid change........ /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I saw no reason for my filter to restrict flow but I didn't cut it in half. The dent on mine appeared deeper but not quite as wide spread as yours.

BTW........The lowest price I found on hydro fluid was Sam's Club, $24/5 gallon

A little searching on this site found that as compared to NAPA the Kioti OEM filters can be had for about half. The crushed filter was reported as 40$ at NAPA and if the above is true then my fuel is paid for to go to the dealer with just that one filter.

Now I am worried about getting what I pay for. Is the Kioti filter inferior. I mean, I don't want to be putting some FRAM equivalent in there when a Baldwin is available.

This whole experience got me thinking about how I would have loaded a dead tractor onto my trailer. Maybe a winch is looking good.

I don't know how I'd load a dead tractor, I suppose in that case I'd just call the dealer and have them come get it. But for your immediate problem you might want to buy 2 filters. I usually have an extra on the shelf. You are well off to have a couple extra parts laying around, filters top my list of having on hand. I try to always have one. Ditto extra oil. But then I just busted a mid mount mower belt and don't have an extra one of those, so like I said, pick and choose based on your own priorities.

Sounds good and since I keep a spare tie-rod on hand why not an extra set of filters. That is surely the best way to assure myself that those parts will never need unexpected replacement.

Doing remote work, my daily driven pickup won't always be equipped with the extra parts or the extra oil. The best solution is to be able to drag a dead tractor onto the trailer.

Oh yeah, I forgot to update the tie rod thread. The part came.

Rule of thumb for a parts department was 10% of the parts get 90% of the sales therefore, 90% of the parts get 10% of the sales. The same thing can be said for our Kioti's

Well I picked up the filters today at the dealer. I got two of the filter that I crunched. About cried when I saw they are 40$ apiece. That ain't cheap. Now for oil which I know is cheap and local.

Realtively cheap. For the price of that 40$ filter I can get engine oil and gear oil and a good chunk of hytrans. Chevron lubes or some other name brand. Dont' worry, I won't get suprtech from wally's not that it doesn't meet spec but I would rather get name brand lube.

Last week I got two pails of what is recommended in in the CK30HST manual, Shell Donax TD; it was $42/pail, and a case of the 10-30 Rotella.
