Yep, your old cutting edge is worn out and you are about to get into the bucket itself. You don't have to spend lots of money here if you have a little 110v wire welder. Get one. You won't regret it. Oh yeah, get an automatic hat and a grinder too! While you are at it, talk the missus into a set of yellow colored lithium ion 20 volt 1/2" impact drivers. Get the little one AND the big one! You will throw all your hoses away a few days later! Anyway, the cutting edge. You don't need to get fancy schmancy hardened cutting edge. Get some oh, about 3/8X2 plain old flat bar steel. Take your grinder and put one of those little thin cutting discs on it and cut all the old welds. Cut a length of flat bar to make the long part of the edge, and a couple of short ones for the lips. Weld these onto the bucket where the old ones were. Now for the cool part. Load the machine up with a roll of Hobart-McKay Armorwear. You don't need gas. It is flux core. Build up a good 1/4 to 3/8 bead all along the edge and lips, then grind it sharp. The shape of the bead actually makes you wind up with a serrated edge. Goes through hardpacked snow and ice like a knife through butter! I have had this stuff on the bucket for at least a couple of years and it shows very little wear.
