Just minor stuff, but wondering if you've seen the same thing on other JD tractors. Our new 4120 with 50 hours has totally wasted steering linkage rubber boots (like tie rod end boots that hold the grease). I think there are 4 total on the steering and at least 2 are totally shot and another is questionable and probably bad too. It looks like the rubber just cracked wide open and all the grease just comes right out /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Will mention to the mechanic tomorrow. Anyone else see this problem?
Another minor thing. On the engine is a screw on cap to fill the crankcase with oil. next to it is the oil dipstick (separate piece). Now that I'm finally getting some field time in, I noticed today that the oil dipstick was soaked and there was oil dripped all down the side. It was coming from the top of the dipstick because I don't think it has a rubber seal in it's design. Anyone else see this? I've got the 4024T 4 cylinder turbo John Deere engine.
One last thing and I don't know if this was just loose or what. But yesterday I did a bunch of loader work and I know the engine was really warm (well within normal temps though). So this morning I see a small puddle of antifreeze on the steering linkage where it dripped. I traced it to the top coolant hose where it connects to tne engine. The clamp on the hose felt snug already, but I went ahead and tightened it a tiny bit more. My 'theory' is that the engine was just really hot when I turned it off and so the pessure built up in the hose and squirted out a little since the hose wasn't as tight as it should have been. Just my theory. It seemed tight enough to me when I tightened it a tiny bit more.
I guess that's it for now. Dealer has been great about wanting to fix anything we find wrong. I'll ask them about this stuff tomorrow.
