Just minor stuff, but wondering if you've seen the same thing on other JD tractors. Our new 4120 with 50 hours has totally wasted steering linkage rubber boots (like tie rod end boots that hold the grease). I think there are 4 total on the steering and at least 2 are totally shot and another is questionable and probably bad too. It looks like the rubber just cracked wide open and all the grease just comes right out /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Will mention to the mechanic tomorrow. Anyone else see this problem?

Another minor thing. On the engine is a screw on cap to fill the crankcase with oil. next to it is the oil dipstick (separate piece). Now that I'm finally getting some field time in, I noticed today that the oil dipstick was soaked and there was oil dripped all down the side. It was coming from the top of the dipstick because I don't think it has a rubber seal in it's design. Anyone else see this? I've got the 4024T 4 cylinder turbo John Deere engine.

One last thing and I don't know if this was just loose or what. But yesterday I did a bunch of loader work and I know the engine was really warm (well within normal temps though). So this morning I see a small puddle of antifreeze on the steering linkage where it dripped. I traced it to the top coolant hose where it connects to tne engine. The clamp on the hose felt snug already, but I went ahead and tightened it a tiny bit more. My 'theory' is that the engine was just really hot when I turned it off and so the pessure built up in the hose and squirted out a little since the hose wasn't as tight as it should have been. Just my theory. It seemed tight enough to me when I tightened it a tiny bit more.

I guess that's it for now. Dealer has been great about wanting to fix anything we find wrong. I'll ask them about this stuff tomorrow.

Doesn't sound like you are very happy with your JD 4120.

Oh I'm very happy with it. These are just minor things that sometimes go along with complex machinery like cars, etc. I've already had several things done to my new truck too...but again, minor stuff. Now if I start having big hydraulic or engine problems, then I'll be upset /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm more mad right now about the fools we have for neighbors. I picked up 8 beer bottles and a cardboard case in the field where they apparently threw them from wherever they were sitting when this stuff was consumed. They do it one more time and I'll throw the d%$@ things back across the fence into their pool! I know who it was...most likely thier sorry kids. These people are pathetic. I don't know how we end up with moron neighbors so much. I wish they'd bulldoze down the older houses and make them part of the ritzy subdivision they put in next to them. At least then we wouldn't have such a great chance of getting idiots moving in. Money does not equal common sense, I know that for a fact. But it seems like all the cheaper houses around us attracts nothing but fools. Criminals on the corner down the street (yes we know they've been in jail)...and their kid called my mother-in-law a B (b word, 5 letters long, ends with ch). Now the goofs in this other place throwing their bottles in our field. Grrr! There's another story about them too but I won't go into it...LOL My wife and her dad are teachers so they get all the stories and sometimes firsthand since they had their kid(s) in school. First class losers.

Had coolant leaks on my 4120 too. Fixed them by tightening all the hose clamps on coolant hoses several times over a week or so. Seems they need persistent tightening for awhile to seal up.

Oil leaking out was probably caused by dipstick not being seated all the way down. Have not had any leaks on mine.

I'll look tomorrow to see if rubber boots are cracked. Haven't noticed any grease leaking out.

I'll keep an eye in the hose clamps and try to snug them up occasionally. Glad to hear someone else experienced this.

The dipstick was in all the way. I think what happened is the hilly terrain we live on is the culprit. I take some pretty harsh angles now and then that leans the tractor pretty far to the left side where the dipstick is. Maybe the oil sloshed around and splashed up into the dipstick tube and since it has no rubber seal, it leaked out? That's my guess.

The rubber boots on two of mine are totally wasted...hehe It looks as if the rubber was defective or something because they have big cracks all over and split wide open like they were old. No biggie though...will get mechanic (Nick) to fix it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh and sorry if I sounded a little harsh about the neighbors. I just get aggravted with people that have no respect for other people's property. We had an old camper out there awhile back and someone broke the windows out of it. And I just found out yesterday these kids next door to our field were kicked out of school for drugs. So that tells you the type of people we have to put up with /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif My only hope is they'll have to move for some reason. I don't like neighbors like that. Can't trust them and you really can't say much to them for fear they'll vandalize your cars late at night or something. Oh well.
