And I thought that I had it bad... this woman was charged with "felony imbezzlement" 20 years ago yet nobody thought to contact her... at least that's her story.

For not returning a VCR tape? Uh oh. I better check to make sure I don't have any overdue library books.

I have been getting at least 5 robocalls/spam calls a day for the last couple of years on my AT&T home phone. I finally got tired of it and cancelled that phone and got my phone through Cox cable. They block almost all of these type calls at no charge. My phone never rang yesterday for the first time in years. Oh what a relief it is!

That's interesting that Cox can do that. I wonder how they know that inbound calls (from outside it's system) are "junk" calls?

Does it just count the number of calls it receives from the same number?

Hopefully other providers will get on board with similar services.

I don't have a land line, but late last year I made the mistake of signing up for a Gun Broker account. They MAKE YOU provide a phone number. Within a couple of days I was getting POUNDED with scam and robo calls. It's only now starting to subside. I HATE scam/robo calls.

Usually, if you have to provide a phone number for some service, they don't check it. Unless you are ordering things that may require followup or have an account that will require text security checks, you can just make up a number.

True, and I have done this with what I would consider to be a clearly "not my real number" like 202-123-4567. Sometimes they confirm a valid area code.
Years ago I selected an email address to use for most registrations that is "nojunk@..." . You would be surprised how many people enter that followed by my IP info when they register for stuff. I get some crazy emails!

You may get more now. It's a good @ name.

That was the message on my machine, when I got home after two nights away. I wish they would wait until the beep to leave a message, so that I would know what I had done. I kept pressing "1" as the message told me to, until the operator came on and said that I had reached a disconnected number.

I may need a new home for my hens, although am hoping there's a lawyer out there who will take them in lieu of payment.
I plan to claim Ruger as an emotional support animal so I should be able to bring him to prison with me.

Actually it kind of peeved me, as I was at my mother's house yesterday and she got a bogus message claiming to be from Amazon stating they were going to take money from her account... which did have her worried. She doesn't shop online or even use her computer.
Been about a month. Still on the lam?

When I'm in the right mood, I'll mess with them. Flip their script. A couple weeks ago, someone contacted my wife claiming to be her aunt, and asking her to send money via a money app for an emergency. My wife picked up on the scan right away so played along. Told her she'll just bring cash over... pretending we lived nearby.. they were adamant that she not make actual contact, she didn't want her husband to know she was asking for $. So we told them we just left a basket of cookies on the porch with cash hidden under the cookies. To which they insisted the only thing that they want is for money via the app. ANd this is where we get dark... we turned this around to the only reason she would be trying to get money without her husband knowing was because that abusive alcoholic was beating her again... (uncle is not an abusive alcoholic, but the scammer doesn't know this)... we aren't going to "let this happen again" and that leads to a tale of how Billy and boys took uncle out and he's dead and buried in the back 40... even told the scammer to call the police and report him missing lol. Then we tell scammer that we went to see auntie and she was worried sick about where uncle was and we realized that this was all a scam because we went to help pretend to look for uncle and not this scammer had gotten a man killed... the scammer then started to freak out a lil. We assured them they were responsible for this and would burn in hell in for what they have caused... this all went on over the course of DAYS lol. In the end the scammer was sending messages like "What have we done?" and "Are you ok?" :D

I’m currently taking care of my 89 year old father. He received the social security call and had actually withdrawn money out of the bank. I walked in while he was on the phone with them awaiting instructions. I hung up the phone after telling them to go to.... I decided to call the sheriff‘s department on my cell phone. While talking to the deputy, the scammer called again on the house phone and said he was on the was coming with a warrant. He gave his name and police department . The deputy and I laughed because the town doesn’t have a police department and it is under the jurisdiction of the sheriffs department.
I held my cell phone and house phone together and the deputy explained to the scammer that he would send a deputy to assist in serving the warrant. He explained that our family had several run in‘s with local law enforcement and some offficers had been killed in the past. The deputy assured the scammer they would do all they could to protect him!
I spoke with the scammer again before he could hang up and told him there were some things he didn’t know. He didn’t know I held a master classification in long range high power rifle, he didn’t know my friends thought of me as resourceful, vindictive and tenacious. I may have mentioned something about hunting him down and painting the wall in the room he was sitting in and that bullets were faster than the speed of sound.
Dad never got any more calls from that crowd. Of course it was all bs, but I sure felt better after that.
