I was walking my dog at the nearby soccer fields yesterday and came across this equipment. The county was apparently contracting a company to dress the soccer fields after months of hard use by all the kiddies playing in the soccer leagues. They were spreading a thin layer of white sand over the bare spots, which is a common practice here in SC to promote grass growth.

This attachment was made like a scoop bucket and used to spread material. It had an auger in the very back of it that rotated to throw material out, and was driven by a hydraulic motor sitting on top of the scoop. You can't see it in the pic, but you can see where the chain drive (or gear drive) would be behind that cover on the near side of it. It also had two cylinders to tilt the bucket up or down. After walking my dog, I saw areas where they had already spread sand that day, and it looked they were also using the flat bottom of this bucket to smooth out the areas where the new sand was put down.

The other attachment was basically a large broom with two wings controlled by hyd. cylinders. The neat thing about this one, you could pull it with a tow bar as was being done, or you could attach it to the three pt hitch, either front or back as it had the mounts on both sides. I guess they used this broom to brush the sand down level, then smooth it out with that bucket?

They also had a really big pull behind spreader hooked up to another tractor, but I didn't take a picture of it but wish now that I had. Oh well.

interesting.

I like those flotation tires on that JD tractor. I bet I could let some air out of them and it would smooth out the ride on my bumpy pasture.

When I have worked artificial turf I have used a coarse bristle push broom which works great for small areas. This contractor may use it on a real turf but it could be his primary use is for large artificial fields.

It amazes me how many specialty implements there are that I've never heard of.

Interesting implement for sure! Here is a link to a YouTube video of the Blec Uni-Spreader.
